Sudan, 21 people died in tribal violence linked to the theft of cattle

This morning, 21 people lost their lives in southern Sudan during the fighting between armed gangs engaged in the theft of livestock. Intanto proseguono i combattimenti nel sud del Paese

Questa mattina 21 persone hanno perso la vita nel sud del Sudan durante i combattimenti tra bande armate dedite al furto di bestiame. Teatro degli scontri la parte orientale del sud di Lake, a Yirol, in un campo di allevamento di bovini. Il portavoce delle forze armate popolari della liberazione del Sudan, Kuol Diem Kuol, ha spiegato: "Alcuni uomini armati hanno ucciso una persona e sono poi fuggiti con il bestiame".
Le frequenti violenze tra le diverse tribù locali sono spesso alimentate dal furto del bestiame. Kuol ha tenuto però a precisare: "Le violenze di questa settimana non sono di tipo etnico. Si è trattato di cowboy criminali che volevano rubare del bestiame, dunque nulla a che vedere con questioni tribali". Sono morte più di 700 persone dall'inizio dell'anno e più di 150mila costrette ad abbandonare le loro abitazioni per violenze e scontri nel sud del Paese, la regione che all'inizio del 2011 sarà chiamata al referendum per rendersi indipendente.
