Sudan, 21 people died in tribal violence linked to the theft of cattle

Meanwhile, fighting continued in the south

This morning, 21 people lost their lives in southern Sudan during the fighting between armed gangs engaged in the theft of livestock. Intanto proseguono i combattimenti nel sud del Paese

Questa mattina 21 persone hanno perso la vita nel sud del Sudan durante i combattimenti tra bande armate dedite al furto di bestiame. Teatro degli scontri la parte orientale del sud di Lake, a Yirol, in un campo di allevamento di bovini. Il portavoce delle forze armate popolari della liberazione del Sudan, Kuol Diem Kuol, ha spiegato: "Alcuni uomini armati hanno ucciso una persona e sono poi fuggiti con il bestiame".
Le frequenti violenze tra le diverse tribù locali sono spesso alimentate dal furto del bestiame. Kuol ha tenuto però a precisare: "Le violenze di questa settimana non sono di tipo etnico. Si è trattato di cowboy criminali che volevano rubare del bestiame, dunque nulla a che vedere con questioni tribali". Sono morte più di 700 persone dall'inizio dell'anno e più di 150mila costrette ad abbandonare le loro abitazioni per violenze e scontri nel sud del Paese, la regione che all'inizio del 2011 sarà chiamata al referendum per rendersi indipendente.

Obama to young Africans: 'The world needs your talents'

President Obama urged young African activists today to help improve their governments, saying that "good governance is at the center of development."
"The world needs your talents and your creativity," Obama said during a Forum with Young African Leaders at the White House. "We want this to be the beginning of a new partnership."
The meeting brought together 115 members of the private sector from more than 40 countries.
The topics included the HIV/AIDS epidemic, as well as human rights issues in Zimbabwe and the Sudan.
Obama also told his guests that when his Kenyan father came to the United States during the early 1960s, Kenya's gross domestic product was roughly equal to that of South Korea.
"Now it's not even close," Obama said. "There's no reason why Kenya shouldn't have been on that same trajectory."
In welcoming his guests to the White House, Obama cited South Africa's success in holding this summer's World Cup soccer tournament.
"That includes even our guests from Ghana, who beat us," Obama said in sticking up for the U.S. soccer team. "See you in 2014."

وصل إلى الخرطوم أمس نائب رئيس حركة العدل والمساواة (قطاع كردفان) نور الدائم سلامة يرافقه عدد من القيادات الميدانية بالحركة قطاع كردفان في إطار الجهود السلمية الجارية لتحقيق السلام بدارفور وطي ملف الأزمة. وأكدت مصادر حكومية لـ(smc) أن الانسلاخ المتكرر لأبناء كردفان من حركة العدل والمساواة في الفترة الأخيرة يعد مؤشراً جيداً لتفهم دواعي أهمية السلام بدارفور ولقناعتهم الخاصة بوضع السلاح والامتثال للحلول السياسية بما يخدم المنطقة وأهلها. وفي سياق متصل أصدرت حركة العدل والمساواة أحكاماً بالإعدام لـ(20) قيادي ميداني جراء تنفيذهم لعملية هروب هدفوا من خلالها لتسليم أنفسهم للسلطات السودانية في وقت ضربت فيه موجة انشقاقات عنيفة قيادات الصف الأول بالحركة أدت إلى مغادرة سليمان جاموس القيادي لاحدي الدول الافريقية. وأبلغت مصادر مطلعة (smc) أن هناك مطاردات عنيفة تمت للمجموعة التي نفذت عملية الهروب أسفرت عن إلقاء القبض عليهم جميعاً بعد تبادل لإطلاق النار راح ضحيته (2) من القيادات الهاربة فيما تم القبض على المجموعة المتبقية، مشيرة إلى أن قيادات الحركة أصدرت قراراً بإعدامهم رمياً بالرصاص. وأكدت المصادر وجود تزمر واسع داخل قوات حركة العدل والمساواة في الآونة الأخيرة ووسط القيادات الميدانية للحركة تحديدا مؤكدة أن أسباب حالات العصيان والتمرد تجيء بسبب السياسات التي يتبعها رئيس الحركة د. خليل إبراهيم التي تنحصر في الاعتماد على أقاربه فقط دون منح وإعطاء الثقة في أي أحد من قيادات الحركة لا يمت بصلة القرابة لخليل إبراهيم. وكشفت المصادر عن اجتماعات عقدتها قيادات ميدانية بارزة بالحركة مؤخراً قررت من خلالها رفع مذكرة احتجاجية لرئيس الحركة تحوي العديد من المطالب الميدانية والسياسية والتي من أهمها إعادة هيكلة القيادة ووضع سقف زمني لإجراء الحوار السياسي مع الحكومة ، وقالت المصادر: إذا لم يستجيب خليل لمطالب القادة فإن حالات التمرد داخل الحركة ستؤدي إلى زوالها قريباً جداً.
